One more thing! The syrup we used I just bought at Sur La Table's holiday sale! It's Stonewall Kitchen's Holiday Syrup. It's a delicious mix of pear, cranberry, raspberry, orange liqueur, and spices. Best of all it's on sale right now for $1.69! Sur La Table really has great deals on their clearance/sale items. Go stock up on some for gifts next year!
Orange French Toast with Bananas and Walnuts
Serves 4 people
4 beaten eggs
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons Grand Marnier (optional)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
8 slices whole wheat bread or sprouted wheat bread
2 tablespoons butter
2 bananas, sliced diagonally
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
Add: Stonewall Kitchen Holiday Syrup and maybe some whip cream or cool whip!
- In a shallow bowl beat together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, Grand Marnier, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Dip bread slices into egg mixture, coating both sides.
- In a skillet, or on a griddle melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat; add half of the bread slices and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Repeat with remaining butter and bread slices.
- Place two bread slices on each plate and top with sliced bananas, and chopped walnuts. Serve with syrup and enjoy each bite!
Hint: Preheat oven to 325F before starting. While cooking, keep finished french toast in the oven to stay nice and warm.
