New Trailer: Dunraven Camper

We did it! We researched obsessively....and then finally made a decision when we happened upon Dunraven Campers last year. Well, it wasn't a quick decision....both my husband and I spent lots of time looking at all types of trailer options. We found a ton of great options but there were a few small problems. First of all, we didn't own a truck (however, we do now!) so our towing capacity was limited to 5000 GVWR with our Subaru Ascent. Secondly, we also didn't want to spend a fortune....even though we do like Airstreams! Then we also read a lot of not-great situations with many popular trailers and didn't want those scenarios to happen however, I'm sure they would have worked out just fine. We considered various teardrop trailers with rooftop tents, fiberglass, vintage, pop-ups, and just couldn't decide or figure it out.

The big problem was we wanted something that didn't really seem to exist (in the US market at least): a trailer that wasn't too big and could sleep five people because we now have 3 kids! There are a lot more cool options it seems for sleeping a family of 5 in trailer designs in Europe and Australia....I would find a cool one and then go to the site to only be disappointed. Then I read this article:

It seemed to line up with a lot of what we were looking for in terms of a trailer for a family of 5. We first contacted the Dunraven team and they said they could build us a custom trailer but with the budget quote, it was out of our price range. So the search went on until we got an email from Bob, one of the owners saying that they could sell us their original Trail Ridge model. They were planning to remodel and reconstruct it a bit and so after more thinking and research, we decided to go for it. They had great communication with us throughout the rebuild and then even personally delivered it to our home in Oregon. After, delivery there were a few safety things for our family we wanted to fix so the owner Bob, flew out here to fix them for us! We took it out on an inaugural trip last month and even though it was cold and rainy (it is green in OR for a reason!), we had fun and are already planning our next trip!

I'm planning to do some posts on the campgrounds we visit and the food we cooked. Since we like good food when we are camping.....or glamping..... I think we fall in the middle of those two terms, haha... we like to eat well. Growing up in Alaska, I still have fond memories of our family camping trips, as well as some f the only times we got sugary cereal. So my kids finally got to have some Lucky Charms as a special "unhealthy" treat, lol. Making memories, and getting outdoors! Life is for exploring!
